A Little Garbage Can Be Good

“So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God” Ecclesiastes 3:12-13.

I’ve been watching a lot of Grey’s Anatomy lately (11 years too late). Sometimes the lines are cheesy, or there’s so much unbelievable drama that I’m like, “OK, this is ridiculous. I’m wasting my time with this garbage. I should be doing something productive.”

Well, yesterday my friend had a medical procedure done. She is a HUGE Grey’s fan and kept Snap Chatting me all about it while she was drugged up in the hospital. It was hilarious, but also, made me feel really connected to her.

As much as people complain about social media or fluffy TV shows, in this case, it was a way to connect with someone I loved who was going through something difficult. Watching the show is also a great way for me to relax and stop demanding productivity from myself. I’m not a machine, I’m a person who needs to rest.

If Grey’s Anatomy can help me escape for an hour or two, and help me relate to my friend’s scary procedure, what else have I been so critical off that actually has good fruit in my life? Or what have I been judgmental of in someone else’s life that helps them maintain balance?

God, thank you for TV shows. Thank you for the few free hours I have to veg out and enjoy a good story. Thank you most of all for a way to connect to others around me.
