Fear in the Workplace

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7.

I've recently re-entered the workforce, and I've come to realize how daunting and consuming it actually is. I work in a place that is safe and there really is no threat to my survival, but my body thinks otherwise. When I’m asked to discuss my work, or when I attempt to build new relationships with coworkers, I feel the grip of anxiety slowly latching on to me for no apparent reason. Suddenly, I’m overcome with thoughts based in fear. Will I be able to do this project well? Did they make a good choice in hiring me? Do I fit in with the team?

With as much going on in the world as there is, I have no reason to fear. I believe God is teaching me how to have courage. Fear paralyzes us and keeps us from who we’re made to be, and what we’re made to do. But if we can get past it, I believe our capacity to experience and share God’s love grows exponentially.

God, help me to learn how to only fear you. I desire to simply operate in love with all that I do, and I ask that your Spirit would come alongside me and bring peace to my heart.
