Lay Your Weight on Him

“How long O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?” Psalm 13:1

I confess the weight my shoulders carry. Somewhere along the path I began to feel the heaviness again. Somewhere along the weeks and months the weight got heavier and heavier and the burden I once left at your feet declaring, “It’s all yours Lord, I can’t do it anymore!” became the weight that bowed my shoulders and my soul once again.

Why do we do this? Why do we drop it off and pick it back up? Why?

The longer the burden exists we think: Somehow, you must have missed it God. Somehow, you just didn’t hear that prayer of our hearts. Somehow, our weight that we gave to you just wasn’t something you wanted to deal with. So we rest a little while and pick it back up again. Thinking this time, we will figure it out, find answers, have healing, fine hope. This time…

Forgive us when we try to bear the weight that is not ours to bear, try to fix thing that are not ours to fix, try to be someone we are not meant to be, try to jump ahead of your perfect plan and timing. Your word tells us in 1st Peter that we are to “Humble ourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God so that at the PROPER TIME he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

Your timing is always perfect.

Father God Thank you for being a God that is able to carry our burdens, able to be patient with our impatience, able to be forgiving of our short sightedness. Help us to lay our burdens at your feet and leave them there trusting you hold it all. In your Holy name. Amen.
