Stop Comparing Yourself to Other Christian Women

“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky” Philippians 2:14-15.

I am not the smartest, prettiest, successful person on the block…not even on my street. As women, it’s almost as if we are born with this innate sense to compare ourselves to each other. I may not be tempted to compare myself to models or celebrities, but what’s just as bad- I compare myself to the SUPER Christian women I meet. Not only is she pretty, physically fit, smart, successful, but she’s also got the glow of Christ. Heart check: Lord… help me!

At first these women overwhelmed me. They were perfect and I was so far from it. But the more time I spent with these ladies, the more I got to know their hearts, and the more I got to know their hearts, the more my own heart changed. My inner monologue turned from jealousy and a desire to be more like them, to admiration and a desire to be more Christ-like. I wanted to sparkle like a star in the sky; I wanted to stand out like they did, as a woman after God’s own heart. Don’t hide in shame or self-doubt. Surround yourself with people you want to be like, I guarantee they will rub off on you!

Dear Lord, bring people into my life who will challenge me to be more Christ-like.
