Summer Camp Struggles

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people” Colossians 3:22.

Finding summer jobs is no walk in the park. Picture me: praying day and night, going through multiple interviews, and still nothing working out. Finally, God helped showed up. I found His answer just a few steps away, next to me the entire time! I was hired at a Christian camp right next door to where I was living.

It was just perfect. It was only a weekend job, so I would still have time to focus on other things. Then, in the blink of an eye, my heart changed. There was a misunderstanding, and I was moved to a different department after only a short time of working there. It should still feel perfect right?... wrong!

My hours were increased dramatically and I had a bad attitude every time I worked, finding any excuse I could to go home. I started to pray for help, right before my shift during my walk to work, just for God to give me the energy and the attitude to make it through the day.

And it actually worked! He helped me find little reasons that I wanted to be there. Before we opened up the other day, one of my coworkers reminded me that I'm here to serve the Lord. It was a big eye-opener for me and really encouraged me to keep working hard. Just because God gives you something you asked for, doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it.

God, just because I'm making milkshakes doesn't mean I'm serving you any less. Help me to appreciate my role here.
