The Power of a Good Haircut
“I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure…You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”Psalm 16:8-11.
Three years ago, I made a decision that rocked my whole world. After a breakup, I decided to make like Zooey Deschanel and get myself some retro, eyelash-grazing bangs, and man, I felt badass. I know that it sounds so cliché, but it felt so liberating to see those locks of old, dead hair hit the ground. It seems like the moment we get comfortable in our lives is the moment we’re thrown a curveball. Surprise! You’re single! Surprise! You’re unemployed! Maybe the lesson is that we should stop being so comfortable with stagnancy.
Have you noticed that Jesus was a man who didn’t come to just live in this world; he came to radically change it? Change is good! Change gives rockin’ hairdos (and some that are rockin’ hairdont’s—but hey, live and learn, right?). Change gives us chances to go out and find something new and exciting, a chance to see a different perspective, and a chance to reevaluate who we are in Christ.. Take today to think about where you’re stagnant and in need of change. Take today to think about how your life is changing, whether it’s drastic or small.
Christ, may we take comfort and have joy in you, for you are secure.
